Apple Watch Development with Xamarin’s Watch Kit
August 20th; 6:00 PM
Location: American Academy of Neurology

August Topic – Apple Watch Development with Xamarin’s Watch Kit
Dick Tracy ain’t got nothin’ on us. The Apple Watch is out in the wild and there’s never been a better time to start playing with the newest, and smallest iOS platform, WatchOS. Xamarin’s Watch Kit support was released in March of this year, and we’re going to spend some time looking at all the capabilities, what you need to know to start developing, and a glimpse at new features promised in the next release.

Presented By Tom Soderling
Tom Soderling is a .NET developer and consultant with a background in web and desktop applications. Two years ago he jumped at the opportunity to switch his focus to the mobile space and now builds enterprise cross-platform mobile apps for Fortune 500 clients at ITR Mobility using C#, Xamarin, and the iFactr platform. Tom is a Xamarin Certified Mobile Developer, has recently released his first personal app to the iOS App Store, and can’t believe he gets to read MacRumors as part of his job.

Meetup 18: Access Native SDKs in Xamarin Forms with Custom Renderers & Binding Libraries

Access Native SDKs in Xamarin Forms with Custom Renderers & Binding Libraries
May 21, 2015; 6:00 pm
Graco in NE Minneapolis

May Topic – Access Native SDKs in Xamarin Forms with Custom Renderers & Binding Libraries
When taking a native SDK for iOS and/or Android and integrating it into a Xamarin Forms project, there are a number of steps you can take to make it more natural to consume the functionality of that SDK in Xamarin Forms. A custom renderer might be your initial step, but it is often useful to extend with your own bindable property implementations. We’ll talk about what this looks like and what challenges you’ll encounter along the way.

Presented By Scott Colestock
Scott Colestock has been contracting independently in the Twin Cities for the last decade or so. Most recently, he’s been involved in startups such as LiquidSpace and Farm Intelligence, focused on both mobile and cloud architecture. He has shipped a showcase Xamarin app or two in the past, and is currently happy to be working with the technology again with current clients.

Synchronizing Mobile Data Using Couchbase and Azure
April 16, 2015; 6:00 pm
RBA in Wayzata

April Topic – Synchronizing Mobile Data Using Couchbase and Azure
Mobile apps frequently have a need to store data on both the device and a centralized server. Keeping this data synchronized can vary from the simple to the very complex. We’ll take a look at the issues developers face in implementing sync and some ways to approach the challenges.

Recently released sync frameworks promise to make the job easier. We’ll dive into some Xamarin-based examples of syncing with the Couchbase framework and also Azure Mobile Services to see how they make it easier to coordinate data between devices and servers.

Meetup 14: Unit Testing Mobile Apps with Xamarin

Unit Testing Mobile Apps with Xamarin
January 15, 2015; 6:00 pm
RBA in Wayzata

Kick off 2015 with the January event at RBA’s headquarters on Lake Minnetonka in Wayzata. This is a FREE event and a great opportunity for networking and the latest insights in mobile development. Craft beers and food will be provided.

January Topic – Unit Testing Mobile Apps with Xamarin
Unit-testing and Test-Driven Development are valuable tools for the mobile-application developer. As mobile devices become more and more fragmented, testing – on both device and simulator – becomes more valuable. Consumers have high expectations for their mobile devices, and you only get one chance to make that good first impression (and avoid bad reviews in the “Store”). After discussing the benefits and motivation for unit testing mobile development, we’ll delve into Xamarin-based examples of tests using NUnit and NUnitLite and discuss strategies for incorporating unit tests into your project. Lessons learned on how to overcome resistance to unit testing and successfully testing on devices will be shared.

Presented By Steve Rawlins
Steve is a Developer, Quality-Assurance Engineer, and Business Analyst. He is currently employed as a Consultant with ITR Mobility, where the focus is on C# .NET cross-platform mobile applications (apps running on Android, iOS, Windows Phone, Windows Mobile, and desktop – but using common C#.NET logic).
