Join us for our July event sponsored and hosted by ILM Professional Services in Edina.  This is a FREE event and a great opportunity for networking and the latest insights in mobile development.

July Topic – Authenticating and Authorizing Xamarin Users in a Corporate Setting

Enterprise mobile apps can be a powerful tool but you need to make sure that your users are actually supposed to be able to access the functionality that you have given them.  We will take a look at what Azure Active Directory brings to the table and how you can use it to secure both your mobile app as well as provide access to your server endpoints.

Presented by Joel Peterson
Joel Peterson is a Principal Consultant for ILM Professional Services with a strong background in .NET development.  He has taken his experiences with full stack software development over to the mobile space and is currently spending his time focusing on Xamarin.

Meetup 30: Securing your Mobile App

Securing your Mobile App
June 16th, 2016
Location & Sponsor: Zebra Technologies

Join us for our June event sponsored and hosted by Zebra Technologies in Mendota Heights.  This is a FREE event and a great opportunity for networking and the latest insights in mobile development.

June Topic – Securing your Mobile App

Mobile Apps can be powerful business tools. Often it’s getting the right data in the right hands and at the right time which makes an app so powerful. Writing a killer business app can be exhilarating, but failing your enterprise’s application security audit is a real buzz kill.  Today’s mobile devices are manufactured with oodles of security technology. However, all that technology goes to waste unless the application engineer harnesses it.

In this talk we’ll look at C#/.NET API’s and open source libraries that make it easy to protect data in transit, data in memory, and data at rest.

Presented by Ben Horgen
Ben Horgen works for Zebra Technologies Corporation and is an experienced technologist with a strong background in hardware and software engineering. Coupling his 15+ years of hands on engineering experience with a degree in Organizational Leadership, Ben focuses on helping teams deliver software in a solution focused and time effective manner.

Meetup 27: Developing iOS Apps With Swift: A C# Developer’s Perspective

Developing iOS Apps With Swift: A C# Developer’s Perspective
March 17th, 2016
Location: Doherty Career Solutions

March Topic – Developing iOS Apps With Swift: A C# Developer’s Perspective
It’s been less than 2 years since Apple surprised us by announcing Swift, a brand new programming language for development on platforms including iOS, OS X and Linux (and later watchOS and tvOS). Since then it has evolved quickly, gone open source and surged in popularity. It will likely run on Windows and Android someday soon.

Why did we need another programming language? In this talk we’ll investigate that question and find out what all the hype is about. We’ll compare Swift to C# and its predecessor at Apple, Objective-C.

Presented By Dan Lamppa
Dan Lamppa has developed software professionally for 20+ years, but his love of computers started long before that. He’s worked on web sites, web services, desktop applications and mobile apps. Dan’s first experience with Mobile development was in 2008 with Windows Mobile 6. He’s focused on mobile development ever since.

Dan has developed primarily in C# since 2002 when .NET 1.0 was released. In the fall of 2015 he began using Swift and Objective C for iOS development.

Meetup 26: Cross-Platform Mobile Development with React Native

Cross-Platform Mobile Development with React Native
February 18th, 2016
Location: Object Partners
Sponsor: MobileComposer

February Topic – Cross-Platform Mobile Development with React Native
In January of 2015, Facebook launched a framework for building cross-platform native mobile apps built on top of their React.js framework called React Native.

React Native allows you to use your knowledge of JavaScript and the popular React framework to build native mobile applications that work across multiple platforms.

First, we’ll compare React Native to a few other popular cross-platform tools, then we’ll run through a quick recap of React to get everybody up to speed and then do a deep-dive into the React Native framework to see how to make use of React to easily create great, cross-platform mobile applications.

Presented By Vince Bullinger
Vince has been a passionate developer and consultant since 2005. He is currently an independent contractor. He received his MCSD for .NET with C# back in 2008. In recent years, he’s immersed himself in front end technologies. Even more recently, he’s developed a passion for mobile development, specifically of the cross-platform variety. Outside of work, he’s a husband and father and enjoys sports, games and learning everything about everything.

Meetup 24: Xamarin UITest in the Real World

Xamarin.Forms: Xamarin UITest in the Real World
November 19, 2015
Location: Object Partners

November Topic – Xamarin UITest in the Real World
Easy to learn and hard to master certainly pertains to building Xamarin UITests. It’s very easy to pick up the basics and point it at sample apps, but real tests have to deal with a myriad of “undocumented features” in the platforms and tools. It’s also relatively new so there aren’t well established best practices and Google is not it’s usual helpful self.

In this session I’ll be showing examples of challenges that I’ve run into and what I did to make it work. I’ll explain some basic best practices I use and also share some hard-earned lessons.

Presented By Frank Markovich
Frank Markovich is the Owner and Principle Consultant at FrankoSystems. He’s a lifelong developer who, for some reason, really enjoys writing automated UI tests for mobile apps.

Meetup 23: Xamarin.Forms: Cross Platform Beyond the Generic Buttons and Text Boxes

Xamarin.Forms: Cross Platform Beyond the Generic Buttons and Text Boxes
October 15, 2015
Location: MentorMate

October Topic – Xamarin.Forms: Cross Platform Beyond the Generic Buttons and Text Boxes
Xamarin is a fantastic cross platform mobile option and Xamarin Forms creates tremendous opportunity to increase cross platform code sharing above 90%. However, what if we want our UI to look better than your run-of-the-mill app? In this session will discuss how to use Xamarin Forms and how to go beyond today’s mobile equivalent of “Battleship Gray”. See how the mobile game QONQR used Xamarin Forms to build UI that looks nothing like your typical cross-platform application.

Presented By Scott Davis
Scott Davis is the CEO and lead developer of QONQR, the geo-social game of world domination on Windows Phone, iPhone and Android. First released in March of 2012, QONQR players have now captured over 850,000 towns and cities in nearly every country in the world. Today, QONQR’s influence covers 30% of the populated earth.

Meetup 22: Fundamentals of Code Portability

Fundamentals of Code Portability
September 17th; 6:00 PM
Location: RBA

September Topic – Fundamentals of Code Portability
A mature codebase can have extreme value given the amount of time, effort, and money which is poured into the typical enterprise business system. Code portability is a common problem dating back to the roots of C and incompatible CPUs. We’ll look at how the compiler is fundamental to code portability and how libraries unleash the developer to solve business problems quickly. The discussion is general to software development, but applies specifically to C and Java, and arrives at a summary of the portability of C#.
